Boston Children’s Hospital hired Steffian Bradley Architects and Isgenuity to design the Brain, Mind, and Behavior Center, a facility developing a more integrated approach to caring for children with neurodevelopmental conditions. Lighting design was both a pleasure and a challenge — the team rigorously considered every element and its potential impact given the varying sensitivities of patients. Indirect lighting, layers of light, and niches were incorporated throughout the spaces, and all patient-accessible areas use dimmable lighting with zone controls to keep overhead lighting from becoming too bright or glaring.
