ZGF Architects partnered with Boston-based firm ARC to create the newest and most unifying element of the UMass Chan Medical School campus. The Paul J. DiMare Center supports a range of education and medical research, and was both a pleasure and challenge to light. Nine floors of glass façade provide ample natural light throughout, while each lab floor is anchored by a daylit corner "living room" with pantry. Write-up areas at the perimeter and glass-walled laboratories give staff and researchers comfortable access to daylight, and several vivaria carry exacting lighting requirements of their own.
