Soderstrom Architects and the U.S. Forest Service presented exciting design challenges at Timberline Lodge, a National Historic Landmark and active ski resort atop Mount Hood. Our design concealed light sources with careful consideration of the many viewing angles, as well as light's reflectance off the water and glass guard rails. As an iconic site in a sensitive yet harsh environment, we selected robust fixtures that met subtle illuminance requirements, accomplished without over-lighting or contributing to light pollution.
