Phase 1 of the Martha's Vineyard Museum project was a renovation of the historic 1895 U.S. Marine Hospital. Exhibition space was added featuring a first-order Fresnel lens from the Gay Head Lighthouse, and a new building was constructed for exhibiting large objects and hosting multi-purpose events. The prominent location, the historical nature of the site, and a constrained budget required a refined but flexible design approach.
